Antony Worrall Thompson – Unexpected Excitement in Bagging Area

without comments

Its been a long time since I did any shoplifting – 31 years, to be precise, but I must have been better at it than Antony Worrall Thompson, because I didnt get caught. At least, not by the staff of Woolworths, the store that was unwittingly supplying me with 7 singles and propelling pencils. (No wonder the company went bust.)

I remember the moments of anticipation before the act; the sideways glance to check the whereabouts of others, the sudden pounding of ones heart through ones jumper, the instant dampening of ones vest with sweat…I expect it was much the same for AWOT. Although a fat man sweating at the check out would not necessarily alert the Tesco security officers...

There will be a lot of activity this month in spite of the weather or maybe because of it. I remember a forecast last fall of a terrible winter, extreme cold and lots of snow. That was a few months ago so maybe it is just a slow start. Lets enjoy what we have now. There is a lot of sports activity at school. Also the drama class is beginning plans for a new production.

The Krazy Kids Bible Class has started meeting again at the Great Divide Christian Center after school, every Wednesday. They will miss Marge Pumala who was always there to help.

Snowplow drivers, other state transportation workers might strike

without comments

A union representing about 300 state Department of
Transportation workers has voted to authorize a strike, if
necessary, to resolve a dispute over a pay freeze.

Among the union members are the drivers of snowplows that keep
Montana’s highways clear during the winter.

However, Paula Stoll, the state’s chief labor negotiator, said
the department can’t afford a pay raise for these union members
because the 2011 Legislature failed to appropriate the money to do
so.

Members of Teamsters Local 2 union voted in December to
authorize a strike over the state’s failure to come up with a pay
raise, said Dan Doogan, the local’s...

Jan. 20 (Bloomberg) — Stephen Schwarzman, the chief executive of Blackstone Group LP who said four months ago he pays an effective personal income tax rate of 53 percent, is taking steps to avoid releasing his personal financial information, according to a person familiar with the plans.

GE Transportation posts strong 4th-quarter numbers

without comments

Urban development in Australia, South Africa and Brazil has brought significant business to GE Transportation, which on Friday announced fourth-quarter revenues of $1.5 billion — a 43 percent increase from the same period in 2010.

Profits also were higher: $226 million for the quarter, up from $73 million the year before.

Most of those orders — freight-train locomotives, and a variety of mining equipment — went overseas.

They need materials to build houses and schools and roads, said Stephan Koller, a spokesman for GE Transportation. All those commodities are coming out of mines. So you need mining trucks. And you need locomotives...

From Z3 roadster to X6 sports activity coupe, BMW a carmaking fixture in South …

without comments

Can you believe!

BMW has manufactured cars in SC for 17 years!

Since 1994, when BMW opened the plant in Greer, the company has been involved in many worthwhile civic and charitable activities across the state — a true, fine corporate citizen.

Last month BMW celebrated another anniversary, its 10th year as a founding sponsor of the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival Concours d’Elegance and as a featured marque. This is another indication that the company has deep roots in South Carolina.

Since 1994 BMW Manufacturing or “Plant Spartanburg,” as it is known within BMW, has achieved many milestones. In 1996, it began producing BMW’s...
